  • Hungry Kitty Zipper Pouch with Simple Hand Embroidery

Hungry Kitty Zipper Pouch with Simple Hand Embroidery

I am once again sewing kitty pouches! (I’m so happy I remembered my process.) Just like before, I’m using my custom Maneki Neko fabric to make this kawaii zipper pouch. I hand embroider a little face on it, then I sew it up with a full lining.

Here’s my TikTok video where I turn out the lining, and then the pouch.

Yes! I will be selling these soon on my site. The thing is… The ones in this post that I just made, are for an upcoming Bazaar. I hope I get over my anxieties and make it out for this!

I also promised I’d make some for my friend’s Pet Shop like a year ago… So, you might find them there before they end up on this site. But, the response has been good so I’m fired up to make at least a handful more. I’ll probably design some NEW and EXCITING fabrics lol. Or make some deluxe versions with more serious embroidery, maybe some beads.

When I put them up for sale on the site, my subscribers will be the first to know. Make sure to sign up below! Bonus: you can also read more of my random rants and musings.

These hungry kitties want to eat up your secret stash and hold it for safe keeping. Zip it – Mum’s the word.

  • Ink drawing of Hapu’u Fern for Inktober Laulima style

Ink drawing of Hapu’u Fern for Inktober Laulima style

I drew Hapu’u Ferns for Inktober day 8. Using Laulima Hawaii’s prompt list.

I only drew the leaves here in this piece, so you can’t really tell what a large fern Hapu’u is. These fern trees can grow up to 30 ft tall! From my memory, they are also very hairy plants. The fronds are covered in what looks like orangutan fur. My Popo had many ferns in her garden. She used the fibrous Hapu’u trunks to plant orchids.

We had a Hapu’u planted near our lanai when we moved into our home. It eventually reached the roof and we got rid of it. Then, little fire ants became a problem here on Oahu and lots of people lost their Hapu’u, including at my parents house. Now I regret losing mine – they are harder to replace and you just don’t see them anymore. Ants drive me crazy though, so maybe it’s better this way.

I am using this photo from LoveBigIsland.com. They have a great informational post on Hapu’u – Click this caption to check it out.
  • Inktober day 7: STARFISH | Brittle Star ink drawings

Inktober day 7: STARFISH | Brittle Star ink drawings

I drew a Brittle Star for Inktober day 7. The prompt is STARFISH.

I remember seeing Brittle Stars a lot when I was younger. Not just at the aquarium field trips, but also at the tidepools at the beach.

At a Drink and Draw evening with my buddies a few month’s back, I drew another of these guys.

I used my LAMY Safari pen with Noodler’s Bulletproof Black. I also used an ink wash of Kaweco Pearl Black.

Did you see yesterday’s post about my “Deer in the Moonlights” drawing? I forgot to send a newsletter about it so you may have missed it. Check it out here!
