A watercolor portrait that I did as part of a Sktchy class a couple of years ago.
I love the bold blobs of color – it almost looks digital.

I painted this watercolor portrait along with a Sktchy class taught by Kyle Legaspi
This class was the first lesson in the 30 faces/30 days series I joined a few years ago- which I still need to complete ๐ Kyle was so detailed and informative! She shared so much of her knowledge, I’m eternally grateful. I look back at this piece and I’m still surprised I made it. ๐

This digital portrait was created in ProCreate using a reference from Sktchy.com
The reference photo was beautiful to begin with, so it was easy to keep the art super clean and minimal.
Simple linework on the top layer. I like to use the ‘6B pencil’ brush to do sketch-like lines.
I chose to use the blue to draw modern shapes where the shadows would be. Pink, rosy tones were used to add life to the digital portrait. To add these bold shapes, I like to use the ‘Gouache’ brush. If you hold the pen to the tablet with out lifting, you can get a really even and smooth effect that works great with opacity to do soft washes of color.
I should definitely try this style again on more faces.

Please scroll through my portrait posts below.โOnly some of them have notes, but I’m trying to add more.โI’m mainly just posting these to get the images to scroll in this fancy carousel here…
